We raised £15k to support women & girls in October!
Can you believe it? With your help, we raised more than fifteen thousand dollars in October. That’s 5x what we raised last year.
Stay tuned! In January we will publish our plans on what that money will do for women and girls in the UK.
To understand how supporting White Ribbon Alliance UK helps mothers and birthing people, be sure to listen to Adaoma’s story. Adaoma shares her deeply personal story of dismissive care and trauma during childbirth—an experience far too common for Black women. Did you know that Black women are 83% more likely to experience severe complications during pregnancy or childbirth than white women? But this reality can be changed. With your support, we can provide Black mothers with culturally sensitive birth plans, access to mental health resources, and the care they need to feel safe and empowered.
Every donation to White Ribbon Alliance UK enables us to provide life-saving support to mothers like Adaoma.
As part of our fundraising work for the Big Give Women & Girls Match Fund 2024, the White Ribbon Alliance UK team ran webinars on topics such as Black women’s experiences with perimenopause. You can also find a recording of this discussion “Understanding Menopause and Health Inequities: A Q&A with Leah Lewin @theperinatalspecialist and Dr. Tonye Wokoma, Menopause Specialist.” In this insightful 1-hour Q&A, Leah and Dr. Wokoma explore the unique challenges faced by Black women during perimenopause, menopause, and the broader health inequities they encounter throughout their lives. Drawing from recent studies, such as the Health Indonesian study, they highlight the alarming statistic that white women are five times more likely to use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) than Black women—a disparity that speaks to the deeper, systemic inequalities in access to care and treatment.
You can also find a recording of an important workshop entitled ‘Reproductive Freedoms in the Post-War Era’. In this eye-opening session, Amity Reed from White Ribbon Alliance UK will take you through the ripple effects of the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and what it means for reproductive rights across the globe – including here in the UK. This is a vital opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of abortion rights and the significant legal, social, and political challenges they face today.
